Grab a coffee. Everybody is buying time this week. Israelis vote today, and prediction markets make Gadi Eisenkot the favorite, at about 62 cents on Polymarket. The Fed decides tomorrow. Three questions. Why is Meta's chip supplier buying Meta's stock? Who buys when holders want out? And why aren't the war hedges working? Short version: time costs money, and someone always pays.

| 01 | AI: Why Is Meta's Chip Supplier Buying Meta's Stock? |
| Meta Sold $37.5 Billion of Stock. Nvidia Says It Will Take $3 Billion.Meta (META) priced $25 billion of common stock at $625 overnight, upsized, plus $12.5 billion of mandatory convertible preferred paying 6.5%. Nvidia says it will invest $3 billion, about 8% of the total. Nvidia (NVDA) sells Meta its chips. The common is sold forward, so Meta gets no cash at closing and can settle any time until Nov. 19, 2027. Why raise at all? Meta expects $135 billion to $145 billion of capital spending this year. It made $97 billion of operating cash flow in nine months. |
| Celestica Guided to $40 Billion. It's Spending Cash to Get There.Contract manufacturer Celestica (CLS) grew revenue 83% to $5.83 billion, above its own guidance. Then it gave a 2027 outlook of $40 billion in revenue, about 90% above this year's raised forecast. The stock jumped about 16% after hours. The catch? It cut its free-cash-flow forecast to $460 million from $600 million to invest in working capital for 2027. |
| Cadence Has a Record Backlog. Amkor Is Spending Ahead.Cadence Design Systems (CDNS), which sells chip-design software, posted a record $8.2 billion backlog and raised its growth forecast to 21%. Amkor Technology (AMKR), which packages finished chips, guided fourth-quarter sales below forecasts, with gross margins of 18% to 19%. It still plans about $2.5 billion of capital spending this year, tied to customer commitments. The suppliers are paying up front. |
Outlier Signal The room says the AI build pays for itself. Not at Meta. A straight-line year of its operating cash flow is about $129 billion, short of the low end of its spending range. The suppliers are filling part of the gap. Nvidia says it will write a check. Celestica is spending its own cash to get ready for 2027. Amkor is adding capacity before its guidance shows the sales. When the chip seller buys the chip buyer's stock, demand and financing start to look alike. Our read: that works while spending plans hold, and cuts the other way if they don't. THE MOVE If you own AI hardware names, Microsoft and Alphabet report Wednesday after the close, and Amazon follows Thursday. Watch whether AMD (AMD) and Broadcom (AVGO) say they bought Meta shares. A cut to any big spending plan would land first on suppliers that already bought ahead.
PREMIER FEATURE Carnegie didn't invent steel. He used new technology to produce it cheaper and faster than anyone on Earth. Rockefeller didn't discover oil. He used industrial machinery to refine it more efficiently. Vanderbilt didn't build the railroad. He understood that whoever controlled the infrastructure controlled the economy. | 02 | Bonds: Who Buys When Holders Want Out? |
| Washington Is Buying Back Long Bonds TodayThe U.S. Treasury will buy back up to $6 billion of bonds maturing from 2046 to 2056 this afternoon, 50% above the floor it set in August. It calls this liquidity support. The operation lands 40 minutes after a $70 billion five-year auction. Monday's two-year sale drew a thinner share of foreign and other indirect bids than usual. |
| Brazil Bought What Investors Were DumpingBrazil's Treasury spent about R$14.8 billion buying back fixed-rate and inflation-linked bonds on Monday, after canceling this week's auctions of both. The real won back about a third of its intraday loss. Long rates gave back much less. The January 2031 rate future eased from a 15.94% peak but still closed about 260 basis points higher, while the 2027 contract rose about 26. |
| Private Credit Holders Can Now Borrow Instead of SellNon-traded business development companies are private-credit funds for individuals that cap quarterly redemptions. Cox Capital is piloting loans of 50% to 65% of a holder's stake value. In September, the same firm offered to buy shares in four such funds at discounts of about 12.5% to 17.5%. Yet 84% of 500 institutions and advisers in a Brown Brothers Harriman survey plan to raise private-markets exposure within two years. Some holders want out faster than the funds allow. Three exits. Three prices. |
Outlier Signal The room reads a buyback as confidence. Right but incomplete. A buyback gives sellers a door. It doesn't change why they want to leave. Brazil showed it in one day. The real won back a third of its fall. Long rates won back about a fifth. That looks like a higher price for holding Brazil for years, not a bet on the next rate meeting. Cox lets holders skip a steep discount, but the loan stacks a holder's own borrowing on top of funds that already borrow. Our read: exits are getting easier to find and costlier to use. THE MOVE If you hold long bonds or private-credit funds, watch today's buyback result just after 2 p.m. Eastern. Heavy offers would back this read, and so would weak indirect demand at the five-year auction. In Brazil, watch when fixed-rate auctions resume. In private credit, watch fourth-quarter redemption requests.

| 03 | War Risk: Why Aren't the Hedges Working? |
| A Fire Near Saudi Arabia's Oil Hub. Oil Barely Moved.Saudi Arabia contained a fire near Ras Tanura, its biggest oil export terminal, after an attack in the region. Bloomberg reported it early Tuesday, citing a person with knowledge of the matter. Brent traded near $115, within about 1% of Monday's settle. A tanker strike in Hormuz from Oct. 23 only reached the public record on Monday. Brent still settled lower as Saudi, Pakistani and Turkish officials met Iran's leaders. |
| Betting Markets Put the Risk Around the MidtermsOn Polymarket, the contract on the Iran ceasefire holding through Oct. 31 rose to 92.5 cents from 86.5 cents. Holding through Nov. 15 trades at 55.5 cents, close to a coin flip. The biggest step down sits between Oct. 31 and Nov. 8, around the midterms. President Trump has said the U.S. won't attack Iran before them. One read: traders trust that pledge more than the talks. The risk wasn't cut. It was scheduled. |
| Bitcoin and Gold Are the Year's Two Worst AssetsThrough Oct. 23, bitcoin was down 7.3% this year and gold 7.5%, last among 21 asset classes tracked by Charlie Bilello of Creative Planning. This is a year of conflict in the Gulf and a Fed that hiked in September. Early Tuesday, bitcoin sat near $79,900 and gold futures just above $4,000. The war is priced by date. The hedges are paying for the wait. |
Outlier Signal The room says to buy gold or bitcoin when war breaks out. Wrong, this year. Attacks keep landing, Brent barely moved on the latest, and the betting ladder puts the big risk in the week of Nov. 3. That matters for anything without a yield. With the Fed expected to hike again by December, holding gold or bitcoin means giving up the interest cash would pay. A hedge on a war that's been scheduled is just a bill until the date arrives. Our read: rates, more than the war, are setting these prices. THE MOVE If you hold gold or bitcoin as protection, watch the Nov. 8 and Nov. 15 ceasefire contracts. A drop there would mean traders see the risk arriving sooner. Galaxy's tripwire for its bullish bitcoin view is a weekly close below the 50-week average, about $76,540 last week, that isn't regained within a month. Gold holding $4,000 after a hawkish Fed would weaken this read.

The bills start arriving Wednesday with the Fed, Microsoft and Alphabet, then Amazon on Thursday and the midterms a week from today. Keep the coffee warm. See you before the bell. |
