Grab a coffee. Brazil flipped overnight, SpaceX says it borrowed for chips, and the Fed meets Wednesday. Brent slipped on Monday as Saudi, Pakistani and Turkish officials arrived in Tehran to meet Iran's leaders, after Friday's $116.72 settle, its highest close since April 29. Three questions today. Weren't the betting markets supposed to call Brazil? Who's paying for all those AI chips? And is the Fed about to hike again? Short version: confidence got priced before the results showed up.

| 01 | Brazil: Weren't the Betting Markets Supposed to Know? |
| Brazil's Election Trade Came Apart in One NightPresident Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won Sunday's runoff with 51.79% of valid votes, Brazil's electoral court said, after he lost the first round. For three weeks, investors had bet on Flávio Bolsonaro and a tighter budget. The main U.S.-listed Brazil fund traded about 19% lower on Sunday evening and lower still before Monday's open, while real futures fell nearly 10% in Asia. Petrobras (PBR) traded about 14% lower Sunday night and about 23% lower before the open. The rally after the first round was worth about 12% in dollars. Sunday's drop beat it. |
| The Favorite Went From 82 Cents to ZeroPolymarket's contract on a Bolsonaro win traded at 81.4 cents on Sunday afternoon, and Kalshi's at 82. By late Sunday night, Polymarket's sat at 0.05 cents. The slide deepened after a Supreme Court justice's order extending voting by two hours, and it steepened fast as the count turned toward Lula. Final polls had Bolsonaro ahead just 51 to 49, inside the margin of error. Kalshi settled its contract at zero at 9:09 p.m. Eastern, and Polymarket followed at 11:17 p.m. Bolsonaro wants the result annulled. |
| Washington Is Watching the Quiet ContractsThe chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, Michael Selig, told Bloomberg the agency watches political prediction markets for manipulation. That includes contracts that barely trade. In a thin market, a few orders can move the price, and that price then gets quoted as what traders believe. The midterms are Nov. 3. He declined to discuss any investigations. The odds were right about the risk. They were wrong about the confidence. |
Outlier Signal The easy take is that the betting markets blew Brazil. Wrong. An 82-cent price still leaves roughly a one-in-five chance that the favorite loses, and on Sunday night that chance came in. An 82-cent favorite isn't a lock. It's a one-in-five upset in a nice suit. The real miss was confidence. Both venues sat far above near-tied polls, leaning on one first-round surprise, while Brazil's stocks and currency rode the same story with far more money behind them. Their drop outran the rally. THE MOVE If you own emerging-market funds or Brazil shares, remember the U.S. fund's move mixes stock prices and the currency. The first clean read is Monday's open in São Paulo, and the bigger one is Lula's pick for finance minister. If you use betting odds as a forecast, check how much money sits behind the price.

| 02 | AI: Who's Paying for All Those Chips? |
| Musk Says SpaceX Borrowed $40 Billion for AI ChipsElon Musk said on X that SpaceX (SPCX) closed $40 billion of debt to buy AI chips. He called it "not a major factor this quarter," and it's about 2% of SpaceX's market value. No filing has landed yet. Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the talks, reported that pricing was still being negotiated. He also said many neoclouds, the firms that rent out AI computing power, face "guppy-level death," which is a rival's opinion, not a disclosure. CoreWeave and Nebius still slipped before the open. CoreWeave (CRWV) closed Friday just above its 52-week low. |
| Bond Buyers Started Charging More for RiskA Bloomberg index of global corporate bond spreads widened to 129 basis points, its widest since May 2025. A basis point is a hundredth of a percentage point. U.S. junk-bond premiums hit a 17-month high, and more than $5 billion of bond and loan sales were postponed this month. The strain started with AI borrowers and spread from there. Buyout firms borrow in the same markets. When buyers can't raise debt on good terms, they bid less. The escape hatch? Direct lenders. |
| Amazon Says 2027 Is "Largely Sold Out." Now Show Us the Bill.Microsoft (MSFT) and Alphabet (GOOGL) report Wednesday after the close, the same afternoon the Fed decides. Amazon (AMZN) follows Thursday. All three report into a Nasdaq that closed Friday at its lowest since Aug. 3. Amazon chief Andy Jassy has said AWS computing capacity for 2027 is "largely sold out," so demand isn't the big question anymore. Cost is: how much they spend, how they pay and when it pays back. Same chips. Very different access to the money. |
Outlier Signal The room keeps asking whether AI demand is real. Right but incomplete. Amazon says 2027 is largely sold out, so the fight has moved to financing. SpaceX says it can borrow $40 billion and shrug, though the price isn't public yet. Insuring CoreWeave's debt costs more than 1,000 basis points a year, per data cited by CNBC. Our read is that borrowing costs, not demand, sort AI's winners next. THE MOVE If you own AI suppliers or cloud renters, listen this week for how the giants will pay for their spending, not just how much. Spending paid from cash flow is less of a worry. Watch whether October's postponed deals come back in November. Their return would signal relief.
FROM OUR PARTNERS Louis Navellier: My #1 AI stock for 2026 (name & ticker inside)
"I want to give you a free stock pick today. This company's sales are up 28% year over year. It holds over 30,000 patents in wireless and video technology. And it just earned an A-rating in my proprietary Stock Grader system. That's the same system that helped me flag Nvidia back in 2005 — before its 82,000% run. In fact, this system has identified the top-performing S&P 500 stock for 12 years running. Over the years, it has cost me $9 million to build and maintain. And right now, it's flashing its highest possible rating on this AI play." — Louis Navellier Click here to see which AI stock my $9 million system is flagging right now, free. | 03 | The Fed: Is Another Rate Hike Coming? |
| Wednesday Looks Settled. December Doesn't.The Fed raised rates to a range of 3.75% to 4% in September, its first hike in three years. Polymarket priced a hold at 94.5 cents early Monday, and Kalshi's hike contract traded at 6 cents. December is the live bet. Polymarket put a December hike at about 76.5 cents and Kalshi at about 79, against about 72.8% in the swaps market as of Friday. One possible reason the bettors lean hawkish is oil above $100. |
| Bitcoin Slipped Under $80,000 Again. Gold Got $4,000 Back.Bitcoin dipped below $80,000 in Asian trading on Monday, its second test of that line in three days, after touching about $79,150 on Saturday. Gold went the other way, back above $4,000 an ounce. Coinbase's researchers estimate spot bitcoin fund buyers paid about $81,300 on average. Those funds took in a net $301.2 million last week, on early figures. Look closer. BlackRock's fund took in about $565.7 million, while every other fund combined lost about $264.5 million. Same Fed. Opposite directions. |
Outlier Signal The room calls bitcoin digital gold. Not this morning. With a December hike priced at roughly three in four, gold reclaimed $4,000 while bitcoin dipped under $80,000 in Asian trading. Higher rates make cash pay more, and neither asset pays interest. So rates alone don't split them. One morning isn't a trend, but so far gold has traded like a hedge and bitcoin like a risk asset. THE MOVE If you own bitcoin or crypto stocks, Wednesday's press conference matters more for December than for this week. Coinbase (COIN) and Strategy (MSTR) report Thursday. A climb back above about $81,300 would weaken this read, and a break below Saturday's low would strengthen it.
A betting favorite, an AI build-out and a December hike all got priced before the results arrived. Brazil's vote is already in. AI and the Fed get their next test this week, with the Fed, Microsoft and Alphabet on Wednesday and Amazon, Coinbase and Strategy on Thursday. Keep the coffee warm. See you before the bell. |
